Screen recording guide
Screencast is for short explanations, product demonstrations, lessons, bug reports, and other moments when showing is clearer than describing. Record a screen, window, tab, camera, or composed view in the browser, then review the complete take before exporting it.
No account or automatic cloud upload is required. Your browser still controls permission to the display, camera, and microphone, and you choose the exact surface to share each time screen capture starts.
Turn on the microphone when narration helps. You can also request shared audio, but the browser decides whether an audio track is available for the tab, window, or screen you select. Check the option in the share picker and make a short test before an important recording.
After recording, the review panel plays one continuous video rather than a series of clips. You can listen back, confirm that the screen and audio match your explanation, and then export the take as WebM or MP4. WebM is ready immediately in modern browsers. MP4 conversion is performed locally and can take longer for large recordings, so Screencast shows progress while it works.
For a more personal walkthrough, choose Screen + camera. Place the camera in a corner, a circle, or a side-by-side layout. Choose Entire Screen in the browser picker when the explanation moves between tabs or desktop applications.
Screencast prioritizes the native screen feed for whole-screen recording and uses a browser video-frame pipeline for the camera overlay when available. This avoids the common background-tab freeze caused by page animation loops. Live annotations remain available when you need them, although keeping Screencast visible during an annotated Screen + camera capture gives the most reliable overlay result.
To record screen on Mac, open Screencast in a current desktop browser, select Screen or Screen + camera, and choose Start recording. In the browser sharing dialog, select Entire Screen for a full desktop recording, or choose a specific window or tab for a narrower capture. Approve microphone or camera access only when you want those sources included. Once recording has started, switch to the app, tab, presentation, or workflow you want to show. Return to Screencast and choose Stop and review when you are finished.
The review panel below the recorder is where you can play the finished video, confirm the duration, check audio, and export the full file. If you want to make a shorter version after exporting, the optional Trim Video Online link opens a separate free online trimming tool. Both are optional suggestions, not a requirement for using Screencast.
To record screen on Windows, follow the same browser-based flow. Choose your recording mode, press Start recording, and select the display surface in your browser's share dialog. Pick Entire Screen when the recording needs to include several programs, browser tabs, or desktop windows. Pick a single window or tab when you only want that source in the video. With a current version of Chrome or Edge, you can record screen activity, add microphone narration, and use a webcam overlay without installing a separate desktop recorder.
When the recording ends, Screencast saves the complete take locally for review and also keeps unfinished chunks in browser storage for recovery. This is helpful during longer recordings, but browser storage is not a permanent archive. Export the completed video when it matters, and keep a copy in your normal files or backup workflow. Your browser decides the download folder, so check its download settings if you need exports saved somewhere specific.
Screencast is designed for a practical, local-first workflow. You record screen content in the browser, review it on the same device, and choose when to download an export. There is no required account and no automatic cloud upload. That makes it a straightforward choice for quick internal clips, support evidence, demos, lessons, or personal notes where you want to avoid another online workspace.
Start with the narrowest source that contains the work you need to show. Use an entire screen only for a demonstration that crosses applications, add narration when it supplies useful context, review the result, and export a file only when the take is ready.
Recording your screen is often the first milestone when producing software demos, video tutorials, or training sessions. To polish raw video takes, generate AI enhancements, or organize accompanying materials, these free online tools fit naturally into your production workflow:
Screen recordings frequently capture awkward dead air before your presentation begins or extra seconds at the end while stopping the capture. To quickly cut out unwanted pauses and clean up your footage without watermarks, use Trim Video Online to trim MP4 or WebM files directly in your web browser.
If you want to turn simple screencasts into complete marketing videos, add realistic AI voiceovers, generate subtitles, or produce synthetic avatar walkthroughs, Veedz AI provides modern AI video creation and intelligent editing tools to elevate your content without complex timeline software.
Technical walkthroughs, webinars, and lesson videos are almost always accompanied by presentation slide decks, worksheets, or documentation. To merge, convert, compress, and organize all companion PDF documents that go alongside your video, The PDFolio delivers an all-in-one suite of browser-based PDF utilities.

Common questions
Open Screencast in Chrome, Firefox, or Edge and choose Start recording. Select Entire Screen to capture across apps, or select a window or tab. Allow microphone or camera access only when you want those sources included. Then stop the recording and export WebM or MP4 locally.
Mobile browsers on iOS do not currently support web-based screen recording. Use Screencast on a Mac or PC. To record directly on an iPhone, use the built-in Screen Recording control in Control Centre.
Use Screencast in Chrome or Edge. Select a recording mode, choose Start recording, and pick the screen or window in the browser sharing dialog. When finished, download the recording as WebM or MP4.
Open Screencast in Chrome, choose Start recording, and capture your screen with an optional camera overlay and microphone audio. Your recording is processed locally and can be exported as MP4 or WebM.
For the full browser recording experience, use Screencast on a desktop or laptop. To record directly on Android, use the built-in Screen recorder tile in Quick Settings.
Yes. Enable Microphone before recording and grant browser permission when prompted. Enable System audio as well when your browser and shared source support it. You can use either source or both together.
When enabled, System audio can capture tab audio, application sound, and music. In the browser sharing dialog, make sure Share system audio is selected when it is available.
No. Screencast records and stores video locally in your browser on your device. Nothing is uploaded unless you choose to export or share it yourself.
Stop the recording and select Stop and review. Choose Download WebM for an immediate local file, or Convert to MP4 to create an MP4 on your device.
Screencast records in your browser without an account, watermark, or automatic cloud upload. You can record the screen, camera, or both with audio, then review and export locally.
Current Safari versions on macOS support browser screen capture, but available audio sources, camera compositing, recording formats, and local MP4 export can differ from Chromium browsers. Make a short test recording first, or use a current version of Chrome or Edge when you need the most complete workflow.
Yes. Choose Entire Screen or the specific browser tab in the sharing dialog when you start recording. This captures whatever is visible on your screen, including Zoom, Google Meet, or any other app. Screencast records the browser-level capture — it does not hook into meeting software directly.
Yes. Once recording has started, use the Pause button to pause and the same button to resume. The finished file is one continuous recording with the paused intervals removed.
There is no hard time limit set by Screencast. In practice, the limit is your browser's available local storage and device memory. For very long recordings, export as WebM immediately after stopping rather than relying on browser storage recovery.
Export the recording as WebM or MP4 to your device, then share it using any method you would use for a regular video file — email attachment, cloud storage link (Google Drive, Dropbox), or a video hosting service. Screencast does not host or share files; sharing happens through your own tools after export.
