How to use Screencast
Record your screen, camera, or both with audio, then review and export the finished video without creating an account.
Published August 25, 2026

Screencast is built for quick explanations, product walkthroughs, and bug reports. Here is the complete recording flow, from choosing a source to downloading the finished file.
01
Choose what you want to capture
Open Screencast and choose Screen for a walkthrough or a full desktop capture, Camera for a webcam-only recording, or Screen + camera when you want your face alongside the presentation.
02
Set up audio and framing
Turn on Microphone when you want narration. Turn on System audio when your browser and the source you share support it. Before you start, choose the frame that fits where the video will be used: original dimensions, widescreen, square, or portrait.
04
Record with useful context
Explain what the viewer should notice as you move through the task. Use the pen or arrow tools when a visual cue will make the recording easier to follow. Your recording settings remain fixed after capture begins, so the final video stays consistent.
05
Review and export your video
Select Stop and review when you are done. Watch the complete take, then download WebM for the quickest export or create an MP4 for wider sharing. The recording and export process stays on your device.
Recommended post-recording tools
Once you have saved your screen recording, you may want to refine the video take or assemble companion materials:
- Cut and trim video: Need to snip out unwanted seconds or remove mistakes? Use Trim Video Online to trim and slice your recording directly in the browser with no watermarks.
- AI video production: Turn raw screen captures into complete presentations with AI voiceovers, subtitles, and scenes using Veedz AI.
- Companion PDF documents: Organize, merge, or convert presentation slides, worksheets, and documentation that accompany your recording with The PDFolio.
